From the Mayor's Desk, Kiwanis Antipolo Silver Anniversary Souvenir Program Before long, folks will once again sing "Tayo na sa Antipolo ..."This after the City Government of Antipolo together with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) agreed in urgency for the improved management of the HINULUGANG TAKTAK NATIONAL PARK.
Antipolo City Mayor Angelito C. Gatlabayan and DENR Secretary Heherson Alvares formally signed last August 29, a Memorandum of Agreement, in alliance to manage the park not only for its recreation purposes but as a protected panorama of flora and fauna. "With the rejuvenation of the Hinulugang Taktak, we hope to bring back its old glory days as an eco-tourism park where we can bring our famiies out for picnic and appreciate the biodiversities of our land. "Our park is more than an image, it is a part of our culture and our historic past", Stressed Mayor Gatlabayan. Under the agreement the City Government and the DENR's Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau will be co-managing the Park and drawing up with a comprehensive plan to rehabilitate the Park through the active participation of Local Government Units, Non-governmental Organization and other Government agencies such us the Dept. of Tourism. The City government of Antipolo will be incharge of undertaking and overseeing the development of the Park in accordance with the DENR management pla, including the allocation of funding for its operations and a massive information campaign on solid waste management and biodiversity conservation within the city and its neighboring municipalities and communities. The DENR would provide technical assistance to the city government, particularly in monitoring activities in the Park and ensure that these are in accordance with the management plan it has drawn up. Hinulugang Taktak was first proclaimed as a recreational area in July 18, 1952 by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 330. It was upgraded into a National Park on Sept. 18, 1990 through Republic Act No. 6964. On November 17, 2000, the PARK WAS PROCLAIMED AS A Protected Landscape through Presidential Proclamation No. 412, forming part of the country's protected areas system under Republic Act No. 7586 or the National Integrated Protected Areas System {NIPAS} Act No. 1992, a alw incidentally authored by Sec.
