Antipolo wins top LGU plum, prepares for SUMAKAH fest by Koneksiyon, April 30-May 06, 2002, Volume III No. 13 Antipolo City was adjudged as the 1st place winner
in regional competition and the 2nd place winner in Luzon Competition in the recently
concluded search for the most outstanding LGU's in local budget administration.
Antipolo City budget officer Maura Marivic Leyva also won the individual award.Antipolo Mayor Angelito C. Gatlabayan and Leyva received the plaque last April 17 at at the Amang Hall, Pasig City Capitol. Other awardees were Rizal, Marinduque and Sta. Cruz, Laguna. Major criteria in the search for the Most Outstanding LGUs in local budget administration are development planning which composed of the approved comprehensive development plan for 10 years, local development investment plan for 3-5 years and annual investment plan, local government budgeting which consist of budget preparation phase, budget preparation phase, budget authorization and review phases, budgebt execution phase and budget accountability. All the above criteria were fully and well presented ny Antipolo thru Leyva with the help of different departments and offices of Antipolo. Also, there will be a whole lot of fun excitement beginning April 30 to May 31 as Antipolo stages SUMAKAH Festival (suman, kasoy, mangga, at hamaka) featuring the city's main products suman, kasoy, mango, and hammock (duyan). Local officials, business establishments and residents here, led by Mayor Gatlabayan, are now busy for the preparation for the festival that will showcase suman as the main topic of the celebration. Gatlabayan said the SUMAKAH Festival was designed to promote Antipolo as "Pilgrim City" of the Philippines and futher strengthen its bid as a major tourist destination. The month long celebration will be capped by an Alay-Lakad on April 30 to May 1. The walkfest is a traditional gestue of Catholic devotees for more than a century in honor of the travellers patroness, Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage. Other activities include street dancing on May 1 and 25;
longest suman contest and largest kasoy brittle contest on May 1; bataw sayaw on May 25;
Flores de Mayo on May 5 and 12; trade fair on May 13 to 17 and agri fair on May 20 to 24.
