Antipolo City wins in National LITERACY AWARD!
by  Ofel Aure, Antipolo Chronicle, January-March 2002 Issue

This year's top plum for the Most Outstanding Local Government Unit in Region IV for its literacy program went to the Antipolo City Government.

In a search administered by the Department of Education, Culture and Sports and the National Literacy Council, Antipolo City bagged the top awards in the regional and second place overall in the National Category via the concept of a satellite high school program and its literacy program.

Under the Satellite High School program, Mayor Angelito C. Gatlabayan constructed 12 high school annexes, a groundbreaking effort to trim down significantly the number of out-of-school youths in Antipolo.

Likewise, Mayor Lito's program ensured that the far flung barangays in the city would get sufficient attention from the government in all aspects of services, which includes provision of formal and non-formal education inside a conducive structure.
